Highlights overview of the Casablanca 11 days

Azrou

At the foot of the Atlas Mountains, Azrou is a sanctuary for the crowds and hustle and bustle of the imperial city. Nearly 1200 meters high, it is also a good place to stay away from heat sources. It is literally translated as “rock” in the local Amazigh language, and is named after the large outcrop of the black volcano in the city center. The name fits in different ways. The city is also a base for regional trade and social life. Residents of nearby mountain villages use the bustling market as a weekly source of groceries, supplies, and gossip.

All this makes Azulu an ideal place for tourists to watch the daily life of the Berbers in the traditional bazaars and mountainous areas without departing from the main royal trail. The weekly market attracts thousands of people and offers a variety of goods throughout the year. Rice is grown mainly in the nearby town of Ain Leuch and is a favorite of the people. It’s also worth stopping in the small medina to make your own wool rugs or hats for bargaining or bargaining. Those who have visited Morocco will immediately notice Azrou’s unique architecture. Like nearby Ifrane, this is one of the few places where you can find the sloping roof that you need due to heavy winter snow.

These structures are in sharp contrast with the beige and beige color schemes. In addition to the prosperous market and peaceful atmosphere, Azrou is an ideal base for visiting the nearby Atlas Cedar Forest, home to the extremely endangered Berber macaque. The number may be small, and you can easily see some monkeys on the road outside the campsite, eagerly waiting for tourists to feed them snacks on the table (this is not recommended).

About ten kilometers away from Azrou, you can also visit Guran Cedar, a cedar tree with a history of nearly 800 years. Azrou is very close to Fez (see our travel guide to Fez, Morocco) and Meknes. Regular buses go south to Beni Mellal and Marrakech. This is the ideal place to stop and relax between big cities.

Marrakech

Marrakech has always been a historical and cultural city with a history of nearly a thousand years. As one of the most memorable places in the world, only this name evokes this cultural melting pot: sandstone buildings, dusty streets, and towering minarets against a dark blue background. Marrakech, known as the Red City due to the thick walls surrounding the old city, has been a popular tourist destination in Morocco since the 1960s, attracting people from the Beatles to Siena Miller ( Sienna Miller). There is no other place to evoke more emotion in the famous market. These bustling markets are vortexes of color and sound, and crowds move between narrow stalls, displaying vibrant spice pyramids, woven carpets, and thousands of other peculiar goods. The enticing smell spreads over the market, and the noisy sounds and the screams of suppliers competing for customers continue to be clues to the city.

Meknes

In Medina, you can find a wide range of goods, from a professional bazaar selling handicrafts and textiles to fake sneakers, souvenirs, and carpets. The core is the 12th-century Grand Mosque (although closed to non-Muslims) and a secret tea house. Courtyards, gorgeous courtyards, and quirky and hardworking donkeys add to the atmosphere. Looking up, part of the roof has recently been refurbished with cedarwood carving boards, adding a speckled tone along some covered alleys. If you want to shop, head to the market between Medina and Old Mela (an old Jewish quarter known for its unique architecture). Juicy oranges, carts full of red peppers, stacks of dried beans, and cars. Olive pods stand next to daily necessities such as children’s toys, kitchen utensils, and piles of underwear.
